To access the Board and committee meeting schedule, as well as Board meeting minutes, click here.<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t Chair, Board of Governors<\/em><\/span><\/p> Governor-At-Large<\/em><\/span><\/p> \u00a0Ex-Officio member of all Board standing committees<\/em><\/span><\/p> William Barker<\/strong> joined the Board in September 2022. He was the President and Vice Chancellor of the University of King\u2019s College, with a cross-appointment at Dalhousie University. He is now retired at as an emeritus professor of Dalhousie and Inglis professor at King\u2019s. He has served on boards and committees in education and the arts.<\/p> Bill continues to write and research, and currently serves as the weekly seminar director for Halifax Humanities, an educational project for mature students who were unable to attend or complete university, often because of health or financial barriers. When he retired he started to take courses at 老王论坛, mostly in photography. The mode of teaching at 老王论坛 relies on critique and practice, unusual forms of education that are strongly focused on the growth and development of the individual student. The atmosphere is one of continuous experiment and discussion. For Bill, it is a privilege to serve on the board of 老王论坛 to support this kind of learning.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t Faculty Representative, Member\u00a0 (2022-2024)<\/em>\u00a0<\/span><\/p> Member, Advancement Committee (2023-2024)<\/em>\u00a0<\/span><\/p> Mark Bovey<\/strong> (BEd, BFA, MFA) is Associate Professor of Printmaking (2004-present), and current Chair of Fine Art.\u00a0 Mark grew up in Gananoque Ontario, a tourist town east of Kingston, Ontario on the St. Lawrence River. As sports enthusiast, he grew up on the water and field in summer, and on the ice in winter. He received his MFA in Printmaking from the University of Alberta, Edmonton (1992) and holds BFA from Queen\u2019s University, Kingston (1989).\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p> His works have represented Canada internationally in juried biennial, triennial, and invitational exhibitions in 20 nations worldwide since 1998. He has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions across Canada including 19 curatorial projects. After almost 20 years at 老王论坛, Mark is excited to join the BOG as 老王论坛 begins an exciting transition to the new era ahead.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t Governor-At-Large (2017-2026)<\/em>\u00a0<\/span><\/p> Member, Advancement Committee (Chair) (2018-2026)<\/em>\u00a0<\/span><\/p> Honorary Degree Recipients Representative (2022-2024)<\/em>\u00a0<\/span><\/p> Dr. Marco Chiarot (<\/strong>DDS, MD, MSc, FRCD) is a Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with degrees in both Dentistry (Dalhousie \u201993) and Medicine (Dalhousie \u201801). Further study includes Hospital Dentistry (Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, North Carolina); Internship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) and a six-year residency in the specialty of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre \u201801) attaining a Master of Science in OMFS Sciences. Following this, Dr. Chiarot left Canada to study Head and Neck\/Craniofacial Surgery (Milan \u201802). Returning to his hometown of Halifax, Dr. Chiarot entered into private practice and together with Dr. Joel Powell formed Citadel Oral and Facial Surgery.\u202f \u202f\u00a0<\/span><\/p> Currently an examiner in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for the Royal College of Dentists of Canada and is an associate professor, Faculty of Dentistry, Dalhousie University. He is the founding member of the Atlantic Implant Study Club, active since 2003. He believes in serving his dental profession and currently sits on the Nova Scotia Dental Association\u2019s Economics committee and Government Relations committee and is past vice-chair of the Prescription Monitoring Board of Nova Scotia.\u202fApart from Dentistry, Dr. Chiarot enjoys cooking and the worlds of art and wine. He has recently been appointed to the National Arts Centre Foundation Board. He belongs to the Italian Wines Society and the Halifax Commanderie de Bordeaux. He sits on the NSCAD University board of governors and chairs the advancement committee. He resides in Halifax with his wife and 2 daughters. \u201dThe artistic endeavors, whether they be visual or performing, have always grabbed my soul, and I am honored to be able to support them\u201d.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p> \u00a0<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t Governor At Large<\/em> Member, Audit and Risk Oversight Committee<\/span> <\/em><\/p> Kelly Denty<\/strong> is recently retired from a 35-year career with the Halifax Regional Municipality where she <\/span>held progressively responsible positions culminating in her role as the Executive Director of the Planning <\/span>& Development department for the past six years. <\/span><\/p> Accomplished in all aspects of the regulatory <\/span>processes associated with land development, she is a subject-matter expert in all relevant legislation, <\/span>planning documents and municipal by-laws. <\/span>Kelly is well-versed in municipal and provincial government workings and held seats on the provincial <\/span>Affordable Housing Commission and the Executive Panel on Housing in the Halifax Regional <\/span>Municipality. <\/span><\/p> Known for her strong partner relationships and dedication to public service, she is <\/span>regarded as a highly knowledgeable, confident and light-hearted mentor and leader.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t Governor-At-Large (2022-2025)<\/em>\u00a0<\/span><\/p> Member, Audit & Risk Oversight Committee<\/em>\u00a0<\/span><\/p> Gary Edwards<\/strong> (LLB, B.Com.) is a sailor, writer and drummer. His band, The Hopping Penguins<\/em>, has worked continuously since 1982. He has performed and recorded with numerous other acts including Big Rude Jake, Tennessee Voodoo Coupe, Tyler Ellis and the Eddy Line and Global-Centric Brass Band. He has recently been training young hockey prospects from age six to 60. Currently working in the charitable sector, Gary is focused on issues of children’s health, at risk youth, food insecurity and homelessness. He does this work under the umbrella of the Colonel Sanders Charities and the Edwards Family Charitable Foundation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p> The father of three adult children, Gary holds academic degrees from both Saint Mary’s (B.Comm. 1980) and Dalhousie (LLB 1984), but he always wished he’d been bold enough to attend 老王论坛 instead. A staunch champion of all things Nova Scotian, Gary has always admired the creative force of 老王论坛 and its role as a global ambassador for the province.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t Governor-At-Large (2020-2026)<\/em>\u00a0<\/span><\/p> Member, Audit & Risk Oversight Committee (Chair)<\/em>\u00a0<\/span><\/p> Cheryl Hann<\/strong> (CPA, CMA) joined the 老王论坛 Board of Governors in September of 2020 as a Governor at Large. She has served as chair of the Audit Risk and Oversight Committee since 2021 and was a member of the presidential search committee that year as well. Cheryl believes in the importance of a dynamic and vibrant artistic community in creating a society where people live full and balanced lives.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p> Her career has included working with small and large companies in diverse industries including international food trading, cellular and internet services, practice management for dental offices, health and wellness IT, and real estate. Throughout her career, Cheryl has demonstrated the ability to develop process, reporting and operational improvements that contribute significantly to company growth. She was born in Nova Scotia, living for a time in Northern Virginia. She enjoys photography, quilting, travel, and being with her family, friends, and dog.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t Governor-At-Large (2024-2027)<\/em>\u00a0<\/span><\/p> Member, Governance and Human Resources Committee\u202f<\/em>\u00a0<\/span><\/p> Kim Healy<\/strong> recently retired after a 30-year career in human resources in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Throughout her career, she has held progressively diverse roles in HR working in manufacturing, healthcare, and, most recently as the director of human resources at Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU). <\/span>Kim is a graduate of MSVU and St. Mary\u2019s University and holds a CPHR designation. She lives in Halifax with her husband, Stewart. Together they have raised four children and are actively involved in their community.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t Governor-In-Council (2022-2025)<\/em>\u00a0<\/span><\/p> Treasurer (2022-2024)<\/em>\u00a0<\/span><\/p> Member, Financial & Physical Resources Committee (Chair)\u202f<\/em>\u00a0<\/span><\/p> Jim Horwich<\/strong> has been a professional accountant for over 40 years. He has served the public as a trusted planner, financial and tax advisor in the firms he founded, led, and as a partner with Grant Thornton, prior to his retirement from public practice in 2020.\u202f\u202f\u00a0<\/span><\/p> Currently, Jim serves 老王论坛 as chair of the Financial and Physical Resources Committee and was Chair of the 2021 Presidential Search Committee.\u202f As well Jim\u202fhas served in several volunteer leadership roles in his community with a particular focus on strengthening operations and governance matters.\u202f Jim firmly believes in the power of partnering with others, having diverse backgrounds and complementary skills for the collective benefit of the constituents being served.\u202f\u201cI decided to join the 老王论坛 Board to give back to the community using the skills that I have accumulated and to grow as both a person and as a professional. What I appreciate most about serving 老王论坛 is collaborating with individuals having backgrounds different than my own.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t Governor-At-Large\u202f(2020-2026)<\/em><\/span><\/p> Member, Financial and Physical Resources Committee\u202f<\/em>\u00a0<\/span><\/p> John Keating<\/strong> (BA, MBA) is the Atlantic RVP for BMO\u2019s Real Estate Finance team. The team manages a portfolio of diverse clients involved in the construction of or ongoing management of real estate properties across the region. His role further supports BMO\u2019s national leadership team in the development of policy, forecasting and portfolio management for BMO\u2019s Canadian Real Estate Finance business. \u202f\u00a0<\/span><\/p> John has 14 years of experience in real estate banking at various levels of responsibility. He has served as Treasurer for the Canadian Homebuilders Association of Nova Scotia for the last 14 years and Atlantic Home Warranty for the last 3 years. He also works on several advisory boards for public and private associations providing expertise in real estate finance and development. \u202fJohn holds a Bachelor of Arts (2005) and Master of Business Administration (2010) from Saint Mary\u2019s University.\u202f\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t Governor-In-Council (2022-2025)<\/em>\u00a0<\/span><\/p> Member, Governance and Human Resources Committee<\/em>\u00a0<\/span><\/p> Union-Board Committee Representative (FU老王论坛) (2022-2024)<\/em>\u00a0<\/span><\/p> Sarah McInnes<\/strong> (BA, JD) is a Partner at McInnes Cooper with a practice specializing in immigration and employment law. She is knowledgeable in all matters relating to human resources, hiring, discipline and termination, including wrongful dismissal and other employment-related claims, and human rights and workplace accommodations. She is certified by the Workplace Institute in workplace investigations and has conducted a wide variety of investigations in both the private and public sector.\u00a0<\/span><\/p> Sarah understands the importance of engagement in her workplace on a deeper level; she has participated in her firm\u2019s Diversity & Inclusion Action Team, Student Recruitment and Business Development groups. She is actively engaged in her community and serves on the YMCA Board of Directors. As a born-and-raised Haligonian, Sarah recognizes that 老王论坛 and its students contribute significantly to the vibrancy of this city and is proud to serve on the Board of Governors.\u00a0<\/span><\/p> \u00a0<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
